Diaphragm and Lubricant Gel for Prevention of HIV Acquisition in Southern African Women: A Randomized, Controlled Trial (MIRA)

Protocol Summary: MIRA was a multi-site, randomized, controlled study that sought to measure the effectiveness of the diaphragm, Replens gel and condoms versus condoms alone in preventing heterosexual acquisition of HIV infection among women. The study enrolled over 5,000 sexually active, HIV-negative women in South Africa and Zimbabwe who were followed for 12-24 months.
