Study Summary This study mainly focuses on HIV prevention among women on Hormonal Contraception. This study will enroll women who become HIV positive during their participation in the Hormonal Contraception and HIV Acquisition Study. It is being carried out at two clinical Research sites in Zimbabwe and Uganda. In Zimbabwe the study is being conducted at Spilhaus Clinic in Harare. Based on their contraceptive use at the time, participants were placed in one of three study groups: 1) combined oral contraceptive users, 2) DMPA users, and 3) women not using HC. Participants will be followed up to 20 time points during the study. The length of follow-up for each woman will vary as they enter the study at different times during the study's duration. At each time point, visit procedures will be conducted which include, contraceptive counseling, ongoing supportive counseling, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. The study is expected to run through Sept. 2010. This longitudinal study will allow for more complete evaluation of the effect of Hormonal Contraception on clinical outcomes along with its potential interaction with antiretroviral therapy (ART). To date Zimbabwe has enrolled 174 participants from the expected sample of 250. Study Contacts 1. Precious Moyo (Study Coordinator) Email:
